I found the Canary parked under a tree in P.A. and picked it up om Labour Day Saturday in 2003. It had no seat, a barn door fairing and dog-chewed wiring.
The next day I started unbolting stuff(fairing and case guard) cutting stuff(aftermarket seat shackle) and tossed it all out the shed door. After tank and carb cleaning, I spent the rest of the day riding it around.
Over the winter '03/04 I painted it, repaired and installed a seat from a 750F, installed 4/1 header(from Regina Cycle Salvage), machined an oil cooler adapter and installed an oilcooler, fabricated an exhaust can and seat sub-frame, installed clubmans and installed a cafe fairing.
Since then I've replaced tires, shocks, battery and a couple cables. Since '04 I've put over 20,000 miles on her.
I'm still under $1,000 total cost, including purchase price. Life is good!
P.S.: 550s aren't beginner's bikes!
