SGI tunes strategy to promote motorcycle safety Print E-mail

One component of SGI's traffic safety efforts are initiatives aimed at modifying or changing driver behavior. They identify these as "Human Factors" in the broad realm of maintaining traffic safety.

In an effort to better manage these "human factors", SGI has added the following initiatives to their safety strategy:
  • Invest in expanding the capacity for motorcycle training in Saskatchewan in order to extend the geographical base and access to this program across the province.
  • Develop and propose a Graduated Driver’s Licence component for new motorcyclists.
Quick Facts:
  • In the five-year period from 1997 to 2001 there were 957 collisions involving motorcycles in Saskatchewan. They resulted in 685 injuries and 14 deaths.
  • In 2004, in Saskatchewan there were 304 traffic collisions involving a motorcycle resulting in 172 injuries and 2 deaths.
  • In 2005 the preliminary numbers show 140 motorcyclists were injured and 4 were killed.
