The Saskatchewan Safety Council is always looking for qualified motorcycle riders to become instructors for the Motorcycle Training Program. Any avid motorcyclist who has a sincere desire to teach motorcycle safety can apply if they meet the following requirements:
  • must be 19 years of age or older
  • must have a full motorcycle operator's license and a minimum of 3 years riding experience.
  • own or have ready access to a licensed on-road motorcycle which is ridden on a regular basis;
  • maintain a good driving record, with no driving convictions under the Criminal Code of Canada;
  • be able to commit to the program for a minimum of three years
  • all instructors must successfully complete the Instructor Training Program as listed below.
Motorcycle Training Program Instructor Training Program
Step 1
  • New candidates are recruited through various methods prior to commencement of Instructor refresher courses.
  • New candidates will attend an overview of the course material prior to commencement of courses.
  • New candidates will shadow instructors on course for a minimum of 2 courses
  • Chief Instructors provide impressions of candidates after each course.
  • At end of year, Chief Instructors will review candidates and identify candidates to be invited back.
  • Saskatchewan Safety Council will contact invitees and confirm they wish to return.
Step 2
  • The candidates will attend the Probationary Instructor training program. (min 60 hours)
  • Chief Instructor(s) teaching course will provide evaluation of candidates.
  • The candidates will attend any MTP general meetings regarding course changes (may be involved in refresher course).
  • The candidates must successfully complete the on-lot test student’s take.
  • The candidates will teach a minimum of two courses with an experienced Instructor supervising
  • The Chief Instructor for the course will submit his/her recommendations on whether the candidate should be an instructor.
  • If review of candidate is favourable, the candidate will be promoted to Instructor status
Maintaining Instructor Status
  • Attend annual refresher courses
  • Teach a minimum of two courses per year
  • Maintain a good driving record
  • Maintain proficient riding skills
  • Hold a valid First Aid and/or CPR certificate On Going Commitment
  • Instructors must demonstrate their safe riding skills by always wearing protective riding gear whenever they ride
  • Instructors must abide by traffic laws
