Wheelchair motorcycle could help disabled ride Print E-mail

Indian Shores, Florida – For 30 years, Jim Cotter has enjoyed riding a motorcycle and that “alive” feeling he gets cruising down the road.

Jim Cotter, Motorcycle Enthusiast: “The minute you get on it…you become electric!”
But lately, Cotter’s choice of transportation has been getting some second looks. It’s part motorcycle, part chariot and part wheelchair.

Cotter discovered the vehicles being used in Merida Mexico. They’re built there and people in wheelchairs drive them about town. Cotter figured the disabled in the United States could use them too.

Jim Cotter, Motorcycle Enthusiast: “I saw it and I said, ‘this should be given to the world.’”
Cotter doesn’t need the wheelchair motorcycle, but he shows it off in hopes someone will take the idea and build some more. Somewhere down the road, he’d like to see more disabled people share the thrill of the open road.

Jim Cotter, Motorcycle Enthusiast: “It gives them extreme mobility and a sense of freedom and a love of traveling.”
