Bridgestone "Battlax Lady" models strike a pose at the motorcycle show.
The 33rd Tokyo Motorcycle Show is under way at Tokyo's Big Sight exhibition venue, with fans pouring into the show despite a smaller number of new motorcycles from Japanese makers.

Due to tough regulations on motorcycle exhaust fumes that will be implemented in 2007 and 2008, Japanese manufacturers have entered a transitional stage in development. This has resulted in fewer new Japanese motorcycles at the exhibition. However, the atmosphere was lively with models showing off products to visitors.

For the first time at the show, organizers obtained cooperation from the Metropolitan Police Department and presented the "Queen Stars" female riders from a police motorcycle unit. The police team demonstrated riding techniques and held a class on traffic safety.

Shonosuke Okura, a Noh performer and living national treasure who is known as a motorcycle lover, was scheduled to appear in a talk show at the event on Sunday afternoon with photographer Roland Kirishima, who is set to participate in the Paris-Dakar Rally. Takao Nagaishi, director of the film "Masked Rider The First," was also set to appear in a talk show on Saturday with Masaya Kikawada, who appears in the film.

In addition, "campaign girls" from race circuits across Japan were set to participate in an event showing how to enjoy racing.

About 140 motorcycle and parts manufacturers are represented at the show, which lasts until Sunday. (Mainichi)
