Police have charged 27 people — including five full members of the Hells Angels — following a massive two-year probe aimed at cracking down on the group's operations.

At a news conference in Thunder Bay, Ont., members of Ontario Provincial Police and other forces said the probe — dubbed Operation Husky — resulted in the seizure of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana and OxyContin.

The drugs had carried a street value of $2.3-million.

"It can not be understated that the activities of criminal organizations such as the Hells Angels do nothing to enhance the quality of life of citizens," Superintendent J.P. Levesque told reporters, describing the gang as a "transnational organized crime group."

"In fact, the opposite is true."

Charges include counts related to drug trafficking, violence and operating as a criminal association.

Of the 27, five are "full-patch" members of the Hells Angels, while a sixth was described as a "hang around" member.

The remaining 21 were characterized as associates of the organization.

Thursday's news conference followed a series of dramatic raids a day earlier, which saw police from various police forces execute 15 search warrants simultaneously in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta.

"Firearms, other prohibited weapons and stolen property were seized during the execution of our search warrants," Detective Inspector Don Bell, of the OPP's biker enforcement unit, told reporters.
