Harley Davidson's moving masterpieces
Female First - femalefirst.co.uk

They’ve been described as moving works of art by admirers for well over a century and now Harley-Davidson’s motorcycles will play a leading role at the 2005 Florence Biennale – one of Europe’s most prominent celebrations of contemporary art, design and culture.

Harley-Davidson and the internationally renowned artists Christo and Jean-Claude will be awarded with the ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ award in Florence. The tribute to Harley-Davidson recognises the Motor Company’s long track-record for creating some of the world’s most distinctive motorcycles.

In particular, the award highlights the contribution of Willie G. Davidson and his styling team who have created many of the Motor Company’s most iconic machines including the Super Glide, Electra Glide, Fat Boy as well as the award-winning VRSCA V-Rod. John Russell, Vice President of Harley-Davidson Europe said:

"Everyone at Harley-Davidson is delighted and with previous winners of the ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ including legends like Ferrari, we fully respect this award’s significance.

"Willie G. Davidson’s unique approach to styling and design, and especially his vision in creating the very first factory custom motorcycles, has enabled the millions of people who are passionate about Harley-Davidson to feel as if they’re riding something that stands out from the crowd and this year we paid tribute to Willie G’s work by unveiling the limited edition 35th Anniversary Super Glide."

John Russell added that Harley-Davidson designers continue to be truly passionate about the way their motorcycles look and feel.

"The new Dyna Street Bob has a stripped down, minimalist appearance and features a specially created black denim paint scheme that will fade over time like your favourite pair of jeans and is clear proof that the Harley-Davidson team is always innovating, challenging and exciting in the field of motorcycle design and styling."

Harley-Davidson’s latest motorcycles will be on display in Florence and a range of riding events across the city are being planned to coincide with the Florence Biennale.

The fifth edition of the Florence Biennale (3-11 December) is the world’s most comprehensive exhibition of contemporary art. Artists from all over the world will participate in the exhibition halls of the Fortezza da Basso and also in public spaces throughout Florence.
