Wednesday, 30 November, 2005 | 17:47 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Karawang, West Java:Motorcycle production next year will reach 5.8 million, an increase of 16 percent compared to this year’s total of 5 million.

This is because three major domestic motorcycle producers will increase their production next year.

Budhi Darmadi, Director General for Transportation and Telecommunication Industries at the Department of Industry, said that the three producers were Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha.

“At the very least, production of motorcycles in 2006 will total 5.5 million,” stated Darmadi in Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday (29/11).

According to Dyonisius Beti, the Vice President Director of PT Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia, Yamaha will increase its motorcycle production by establishing new factory in Karawang.

This factory is to commence operations next year, producing 600,000 motorcycles per year.

The investment made by Yamaha to build the factory will total US$70 million and provide jobs for around 2,500 workers.

The increased investment will increase Yamahs’s production by 300,000 motorcycles next year.

However, production of Yamaha motorcycles shall only reach full capacity in 2007. (Sutarto-Tempo News Room)
