When you have money, think of the time when you had none. Japanese proverb In the final scene of Juzo Itami"s "Marusa No Onna" (A Taxing Woman), the tax cheat Hideki Gondo has been tracked to his lair by the sexy government tax agent Ryoko Itakura (Nobuko Miyamoto). There, next to a giant safe filled with his ill-gotten gains, she asks him what every poor slob wants to know: How does one become so filthy rich?
Gondo (played brilliantly by Tsutomo Yamazaki) knows the game is up. The cops are on their way and, like any man, he can't resist a chance to brag to a woman about his wealth.
"Money is like this whiskey here," he says, holding up a half-filled tumbler. "When it is half-full, you dare not take a drink. Even when the glass is finally filled to the brim, you indulge in not the tiniest sip. Only when the glass is over-full, do you lick the drops which spill over the rim."
What he meant, of course, is that one becomes wealthy by investing, not by spending. The rich invest their money in order to make more; the poor spend it and remain poor. |

February 22, 2006 A Suzuki Hayabusa-engined motorcycle – the “Ack Attack” – will attempt to break the 16-year-old FIM land speed record at South Australia’s Lake Gairdner in early March. With conditions at the spiritual home of land speed racing (Bonneville USA) not up to scratch in 2005, Californian-based Mike Akatiff has decided to shoot for the record in Australia, with the initial run planned at first light on March 6. The record attempt will be the highlight of the 2006 Lake Gairdner Speed Trials, which runs from March 6-10. The streamliner, designed by Akatiff and constructed at the Akatiff-owned ACK Technologies (an avionics emporium) in San Jose, is powered by two turbo-charged 1300cc Hayabusa engines producing around 900 horsepower, which are ensconced in chrome moly tubing and a predominantly carbon-fibre skin. |

We found this article on http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18318775-29277,00.html and if nothing else, it offers a good definition of a "squid". I have personally never heard it quite explained like this before. Sobering - spend the money on gear!!!
MOTORCYCLISTS risk ending up a "sticky boneless mess" if they crash while not wearing proper safety gear, a senior Victoria Police traffic officer says. Assistant Commissioner for Traffic Noel Ashby issued the warning today ahead of this weekend's Superbikes grand prix at Phillip Island, southeast of Melbourne. Police are preparing for hundreds of motorcyclists from across the state, NSW, the ACT and Queensland to travel through Victoria to the event. |

DETROIT _ In 2004, Sandy Zakosky decided to get back into the motorcycle thing after giving it up more than 20 years before.
"I rode as a kid because I couldn't afford a car and I liked it," said Zakosky, 57, of Brighton, Mich. "Now that the kids are out of the house and out of college, I decided to do it again."
According to industry watchers, more and more women like Zakosky are falling in love with motorcycles. An estimated 6.6 million motorcycle owners lived in the United States in 2003, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council, based in Irvine, Calif. |

Knox Back Protector by Bernie K. for webBikeWorld
In a land where way too many motorcycle riders apparently believe that shorts and a T-shirt make excellent riding apparel, a back protector must seem as strange as a set clip-ons for a Fat Boy.
When I pull up to the gas pump in the middle of the summer in my head-to-toe riding gear, I laugh at those who laugh at me. They think I look the fool and the feeling is mutual. I am sure I'll be the one who's laughing last.
I refuse to ride or drive with or near motorcycle riders who are without protective gear, and I've been known to pull over for a time-out rather than have to bear witness. You may think me extreme, but that's how strongly I feel about it. |
