Where can you find a dyno in Saskatchewan? Print E-mail
Bike Servicing and Maintenance
Friday, 09 March 2007
If you are wondering what kind of power your motorcycle is putting out and/or want to fine tune your machine to get the most out of it, there is one place in Saskatchewan that has a dynomometer (dyno) full time.

Sure you can wait for the various dealers around the province that rent one and bring it to a special event and whatnot, but it you can't wait, go to Redline Harley Davidson Buell in Saskatoon.

Here is the information on their dyno found on their website:

Through the use of state-of-the-art computer technology, Dynojet's MODEL 200 Dynamometer allows you to quickly and accurately diagnose performance problems.

By simulating the best "seat-of-the-pant" road testing right in the shop, problems are easily diagnosed in a fraction of the time.

Shop sales, service work, and credibility all benefit with a Dynojet Chassis Dynamometer.

We are proud to be the only dealership in Saskatchewan that is a Dyno Run participant!

Contact us and we can arrange to have quotes sent to you.

The Saskatchewan Highway Traffic Act applies to all traffic on public roadways. Here we are looking at the sections that apply to motorcycles specifically.

For a complete copy of the Highway Traffic Act, visit http://www.qp.gov.sk.ca/documents/English/Statutes/Statutes/H3-1.pdf.

Note that this document is webbased and may not be completely accurate as it applies to issues before a court of law. For an official copy of the HTA, contact the Queen's Printer.

SGI Rate Proposal Print E-mail
Safety and Insurance
Monday, 05 February 2007
SGI has proposed a change to the current vehicle insurance/registration rates here in Saskatchewan For motorcyclists, we can expect an increase across the board if this proposal is ratified.

SGI also plans to vary insurance premiums according to the style of motorcycle. So if you have a sportbike, you can expect a larger increase in premiums than if you ride a touring bike or cruiser. SGI has never taken into account the type of motorcycle before - they have always gone by engine size and year - so this should be viewed as a more fair approach.

The motorcycle specific rate information starts at the end of page 37. View the proposal in PDF form here.

SGI tunes strategy to promote motorcycle safety Print E-mail
Safety and Insurance
Monday, 05 February 2007
One component of SGI's traffic safety efforts are initiatives aimed at modifying or changing driver behavior. They identify these as "Human Factors" in the broad realm of maintaining traffic safety.

In an effort to better manage these "human factors", SGI has added the following initiatives to their safety strategy:
  • Invest in expanding the capacity for motorcycle training in Saskatchewan in order to extend the geographical base and access to this program across the province.
  • Develop and propose a Graduated Driver’s Licence component for new motorcyclists.
Quick Facts:
  • In the five-year period from 1997 to 2001 there were 957 collisions involving motorcycles in Saskatchewan. They resulted in 685 injuries and 14 deaths.
  • In 2004, in Saskatchewan there were 304 traffic collisions involving a motorcycle resulting in 172 injuries and 2 deaths.
  • In 2005 the preliminary numbers show 140 motorcyclists were injured and 4 were killed.

SGI provides rebate and applies to reduce rates Print E-mail
Safety and Insurance
Monday, 05 February 2007
Thanks in part to safer driving, SGI is returning $100 million to its customers through a rebate on their 2006 auto insurance premiums. In addition, SGI has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel for a general rate reduction of five per cent with rate rebalancing, which would mean more than half of SGI customers will be paying less for their auto insurance.

“SGI’s Auto Fund is currently in the strongest financial position in its history, due mainly to reduced claim costs, solid investment earnings and growth in premium revenue as customers upgrade to newer vehicles. The Auto Fund earned an estimated $90 million in 2006, leaving its Rate Stabilization Reserve with an estimated balance of $196 million,” Minister responsible for SGI Glenn Hagel said. “Consequently, over half a million Saskatchewan vehicle owners will earn an almost 17 per cent rebate on the insurance premiums they paid for 2006 coverage.“
