Wednesday, 24 January 2007 |
This article goes over the main highways going in and out of Saskatchewan. It looks at some of the history of the highways and should give you a bit of a heads up regarding our major roadways.
TransCanada Highway (Highway 1) is the major east-west highway across Saskatchewan. The first railway followed this route in the 1880s, so did thousands of homesteaders. This major route starts at Fleming near the Manitoba border, continues through Regina, Moose Jaw and Swift Current, and crosses through Maple Creek before continuing into Alberta.
TransCanada Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16) is the other major east-west highway across the province. It starts at Langenburg near the Manitoba border and cuts a northwesterly diagonal through

You may notice as you enter the forum for the first time during a visit to SMA that it loads twice. This generally only happens once after a period of inactivity or recent logon.
This is normal, and although a tad annoying, the current release of the forum software does this to load your forum permissions and history. We anticipate that this will be fixed in the next major release of the forum software.
Thanks for your patience.

Firstly, SMA is not currently dial-up friendly although we are looking at options to make it so in the future.
You can try using out newsfeed service if you still want to be kept up to date without the slow loading times. SMA Newsfeeds will keep you up to date as the items on the frontpage of the site are updated. This service will require a news reader such as Microsoft Outlook. Firefox browser can also easily read newsfeeds or you can also click here to be taken to Google results regarding newsreaders.
If you have a higher speed connection and it still seems to load slowly sometimes, it could be due to a couple things:
- You just loaded the site for the first time this time around.
- Due to the technology the site runs on, the initial load of the site can take a bit longer than once you've loaded the site and are browsing around. Once you load up the site for the first time, you should notice that the speed increases as you move to other areas of the site.
- If you close your browser and/or open another browser and visit the site - this will result in the site "being loaded for the first time"
- The server is loaded down at that particular time.
- Since SMA is currently run out of a residence and not a professional web hosting server, load times can be impacted if there are many visitors on the site and/or backups on the server are being done at that particular time.
- If this happens, it generally only occurs for a few minutes and the site will continue to load as usual - it may just take longer.
- As SMA grows, we will be looking at options to have the site professionally hosted to decrease your load times.
- You have multiple browser windows pointing at SMA at the same time.
- When you are visiting the site via a couple browser windows or in two or more tabs, this can result in slowness as well especially due to the SMA rotating images at the top of the site. Our experience is that more than two windows pointing at SMA at the same time can result in slow loading speeds.
We know how frustrating it can be at times when things run slowly, if you have any particular concerns or suggestions in this matter, please contact us.
