SMA January Newsletter

Hello [NAME]!!

January has been a busy month for SMA as we have started to add content to the new site about events in 2007 and content that's relevant to the upcoming riding season. Traffic has also increased as we've seen a great response to the new website design and new features.

January also saw 15 new members on SMA. Welcome to you all! Let us know if you have any questions. When you have a moment, introduce yourself and your ride in the forum.

Stay tuned to the website for details on the 2007 Ride for Sight BIG kick-off event. It's be a good time to hang out, enjoy some food and get you in the "riding season spirit". It'll also be an opportunity for you to find out how you can be involved with Ride for Sight this year.

Until next time - enjoy the ride!

Gearing Up - Motorcycle Safety Course
Saturday, 06 January 2007

The Canada Safety Council is well known across Canada for its work in the development and delivery of a range of personal and professional safety programs, initiatives and safety campaigns. One of the highest profile, and most successful, programs developed and managed nationally by the Canada Safety Council is the Gearing Up motorcycle rider training program.

Since 1974 over 325,000 Canadians have learned how to ride motorcycles from the professionals who teach the Canada Safety Council's Gearing Up motorcycle training program.

Gearing Up is Canada's only national motorcycle rider training program. It has developed an enviable reputation both in Canada and internationally for its excellence in course curriculum (below) and delivery. That excellence has led to several provinces allowing riders to obtain their motorcycle license without taking any skill test other than the one delivered

Ride for Sight
Initial 2007 Ride for Sight Event Details
Tuesday, 21 November 2006

The team has finalized the date for the 2007 Ride for Sight event here in Saskatchewan. It’s August 18th & 19th, 2007 starting at Thunder City the morning of the 18th and leaving for Moose Jaw.

We’ll be at the Western Development Museum on Saturday for some bike games, show & shine, food, drinks and more. If you came last year, expect the same great time - but we're also working on a number of things to add to the event this year to be announced as they are confirmed.

The camping location is still to be determined but we’re looking at a few campgrounds within 30-45 minutes of Moose Jaw. Of course, everyone is welcome to come (riders or not) and they can either come just for the events at the WDM or join in on the camping as well. The minimum donation for the cause (in order to take part in the event) is $50.00 but those donations can be raised by picking up a donor book at Thunder City in Regina.

[Video] Watch for Motorcycles
Friday, 26 January 2007
This is a motorcycle awareness commercial from the US that tries to show the impact of not paying attention can be. A couple talking in a car about day-to-day stuff, turning a corner not paying attention. This commercial tries to make people aware that not paying attention can have devastating effects on a motorcyclist.

[Video] Think Bike: Motorcycle Awareness Campaign
Friday, 26 January 2007
This is one of the most dramatic motorcycle awareness campaign commercials we've come across to date. It brings the viewer into the riders world by the commercial being completely from the drivers perspective. If this doesn't impact you at least a bit - then you don't ride a motorcycle or know someone who does. Very powerful

[Video] What do we have to do to get noticed?
Friday, 26 January 2007
This motorcycle awareness campaign is entitled "What do we have to do to get noticed?" It's a lighthearted attempt to raise awareness of motorcycles to the general public. The title of the campaign says it all. We've all been there - wearing bright clothing, headlight on highbeams, doing all we can to get noticed many times to no avail.
