Gas gauge 12 Months ago
I have an FXR tank on my bike. I took it off and had it painted put it back on and now the gas gauge doesn't work. I think I put it back the way it was but I can't be sure. There is power to the terminal under the dash, which is the only thing I can think to check. Maybe the paint is insulating the ground but that would surprise me. Any suggestions?

I would at least lightly sand the connectors to make sure that sufficient contact is being made, and check all the other connections including the sending unit.

At the risk of insulting you, I would also recommend ensuring that the tank actually has gas in it. (This may sound like a no-brainer, but I've read about such things taking place.)

Post edited by: Atlas, at: 2007/07/23 15:26

If it doesn't have any gas in the tank I will have to take the carb to the patent office because what was left in it has taken me close to 400 miles! I am leaning towards the new paint insulating the ground(as in the tank is isolated from the frame and the ground attaches to a brass screw that seats into a ring in the tank)and intend to run a jumper from a solid ground up to the lead under the dash to verify this and then go from there.
