Well, today was a the start of a long process of rebuilding my 85 FJ1100. I managed to get the seat & tank off without the seat lock key (which was a bit of a pain trying not to break anything) so I could drop the motor out.

Everything came apart really easy - in fact - from start to laying in the driveway was only 2 hours and that's taking off the fairings and everything. Given that I've never worked on an FJ at all, I was pretty proud of getting it out so quick.

The one thing I was worried about was getting the exhaust off without breaking any bolts off but they actually came out really easy. It helped that they were nuts, not studs...

Anyhow, it's in my shed now waiting for someone to come help me carry it down stairs

so I can begin tearing it apart.

For those who haven't read the previous threads regarding this bike, the lower case is cracked and broken due to a drive chain snap so I need to tear it completely down and change the case.

I put it in tech talk because I plan to document the whole process for reference of those in the future who are planning a compelete rebuild.

Here's a pic of the 3 bikes currently in the drive...the middle one is the one I dropped the motor out of today.
