XBox 360 support sucks 3 Years ago

Posted this on the Xbox 360 forum. Still pissed about it, so I thought I would share it here as well. If anyone is thinking about the 360, I would say either think again, or wait a while.<br /><br /><br /><br />I am needing to vent just a little so thought I would try here. I was in the store on the day of release to purchase my new Xbox 360 which was to be a Christmas gift for my kids. After reading a few reviews about some of the problems, thought maybe I would test the console out. Unpacked everything and connected it to my projector. To my joy when I press the power button, I get 3 red flashing lights, and nothing else . Look around and try what limited options I have for trouble shooting, all with the same results. OK, I guess it is time to call for support. After a bit of a delay I get through, and I am informed that there is a problem with my console, and it needs to be returned for service. Wow, that was a big surprise. So they are going to ship me an empty cardboard box to return my console for servicing. This is the 29th of Nov when I placed this first call. After a week, I still hadn't received my box, so back to the phone I go. This time I get someone who tells me that the problem is not the console, but the power cord. That's right, not the power supply, but just the power cord !!! Finally after SEVERAL more phone calls I have a parcel show up at my door on the 17th of Dec. Finally 2 1/2 weeks after my first phone call I receive a box so that I can return my console. Since it is late on Friday, I can't actually ship it out untill Monday. Check the tracking number online, and have confirmation that the parcel has been delivered to the Microsoft service center at 8:30 am on the morning of Dec 20th. After a few more phone calls to see when I may receive it back, I am garunteed that it will be back in my hands before Christmas. Christmas came and went, and my kids still do not have there present. Time to make a few more calls. After waiting on hold, and talking briefly with a few people, I am cut off once, twice, three times.....<br /><br />Tonight I decided to call back again and try my luck. Yeah, I get to talk to someone who will not hang up on me. So know I have confirmation (maybe) that the console has been delivered to the service center as of 05-Jan-06. OK, so where the $*^#$ did it go on the 20th ???? Maybe I will actually get this thing back next week.<br /><br />After all of this I would have to say this is the worst support that I have receive from ANY company :censoredsmilie: :rant: !!!! I am a computer service tech by trade so I know how a helpdesk works, and I know how the repair side of the business works. As a result I have been very patient, and have never lost my temper with the call center operatot as I know there is nothing the person I am talking with can do. This is the only company that has never been able to give me a straight answer. Every call that I have made, I have been told something different, and never the same thing twice. I have been offered a free game as compensation for my problems, and then told that it is impossible to do that. I have been told that I will receive a phone call to let me know what is happening, and then told they do not do that. I have been cut off and hung up on repeatedly.<br /><br />For a company that is pushing a product that they figure is so great they sure have a VERY POOR support system in place. After paying the ammount I did for this console, I would at least expect to get a phone call or an email to let me know what is happening with my console when it needs to be returned for service. After all I have owned this console for about a month and a half, and have never seen it turn on.<br /><br />Signed on very disappointed and upset XBox 360 owner.

that's harsh man...it really is frustrating to go through something like that.<br /><br />To bad you sent it to Microsoft, I'd of just taklen it back to the store I got it from.<br /><br />Let us know how it turns out. <br /><br />Oh, and the "we don't give out free games" etc is bull....you'll have to fight for it, but I guarantee you can get reimbursed directly from Microsoft something for this trouble. My wife has a real nack at that...but this is your thread, so I won't get into that here. O0

i have always stuck with the playstation, i picked it over the n64 way back and over the x box. the others always rush shit and make promises but sony knows to wait for true quality. didnt the dreamcast teach anyone that an early realease doesnt really help anyone?

lol i still have my 64. hell i still have my nintendo, that was a solid machine, still works, have to blow on the games once in a while, but who cares, super mario 1 and 3, excitebike, i will never forget the awesoem games lol

Yes, I actually have a working box now O0.<br /><br />I am still somewhat unimpressed by there support. From the initial phone call it was 8.5 weeks untill I finally had a working unit in my hands. I did receive a replacement conole, and when I connected it the thing still had the same problem. Called back, and foundout that it never was a problem with the unit, it was the power supply. Talked to a supervisor, and he tried to reason with me that "Technically I have a working Xbox and the problem is just in the power supply". Needless to say that comment went over about as well as a lead balloon. After talking to this guy for over an hour, and ripping him a new one about his comment that I "Do have a working Xbox" I had a new power supply sent to me without having to return mine. <br /><br />Basically after making over 40 phone calls, and waiting 8.5 weeks I finally have a working Xbox. As well after being told several times that there was nothing they could do or offer for compensation I also received a free game, and a free wireless controller. <br /><br />While I am happy that I finally have a working game console, and the kids even moreso. I am still very soured over the support that I received from the company. But I do have to admit this thing looks awsome being projected onto an 8 foot screen :rockon:

no doubt...great to hear!!<br /><br />And at least they threw in some free stuff to *sorta* make up for some of the crap you went through.

LOL <br /><br />After all the garbage that I had to go through in order to get this thing fixed I find it really funny that I was more excited to get the phone call from the guy a couple of days later to make sure I had received everything and that the thing was finally working. After he offered to send me the free controller he said that he would give me a call either the next evening, or sometime the day after that. After being told several times that I would be called back or someone else would call me I said yeah right I will believe it when it happens. And what happens...... Friday afternoon I am sitting at work and my cell phone rings  paz_smilie:. Here is the guy from Microsoft support phoning to make sure that I received the powersupply, and that it fixed my problem. As well he gave me a tracking number for the controller. Checked it out and purolator was attempting the delivery. It just goes to show that keeping the customer informed goes a lot farther than all of the free stuff sometimes. But I am still not giving the $150 + of free stuff back !
