Helmet Safety 3 Years, 3 Months ago
"A helmet is only made for one impact"

This may sound like a stupid question, but I've heard this before...and always wondered: What about when the helmet falls on the cement after you hang it on the handlebars carelessly?

Time to replace or are we talking about bigger impacts than this? What's the cut off point? Like goin' 5mph vs 190mph? Surely a drop from a handlebar would be similar to a slow speed crash...depending of course on how it hits the ground...

Just curious...

All manufacturers recommend that you stop wearing the helmet after it falls from the handlebars as there may be hidden damage. Most manufacturers will check the helmet out for a fee and verify it is okay.

Having said that, I've dropped a few helments from the handlebars and never replaced them or had them checked. As an aside, you should replace a helmet every 3-5 years because the foam compresses and it looses some of its ability to cushion your head in a fall.

Yes, but have you considered if you fell from a helicopter while wearing the helmet, your head would be safe.

Kinda timely, I was calling Reeds for helmets for a friend and he has Vega modulars and HJC modulars on sale. The Vegas are $170 and the HJC is $225.

No. I'm not sure if the discount applies to merchandise that is already discounted, but it never hurts to ask.
