Re:tune-up 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I also have a venture (85) that needs a tune up and I am thinking the clutch is slipping when I hit the throttle real hard in 2nd the engine seems to spin up to about 5000 or 6000 rpm until the bike speed catches up. )It kinda feels like a CVT tranny in a car) > it doesnt seem to slip in any other gear
So, any recommondations for a place to take it too? or the name of a good mechanic?

Thanks for you help.

Mine does that too this time of year. Mine has a wet clutch so when it's cold - it seems to slip more than when hot.

I've taking my bikes to Regina Cycle Salvage before and they've been relatively quick and cheap for minor stuff like that.

The Yamaha Venture is known to have a weak second gear. So it might not be your clutch. Cycle Salvage have been helpful whenever I needed anything.

Re:tune-up 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Thanks everyone for the suggestions about my clutch,
I ran into the guy I bought the bike from and he mentioned that he used synthetic the last time he changed oil. Later,I remembered reading in the VR forums that ppl had trouble with the synths making the clutches slip so I changed the oil a couple of days ago to a regular oil and so far so good no more slippage!
I still gotta get to cycle salvage for a tune up however.thanks for the recommendation

Synthetic oil can cause problems with some bikes...you can always try regaulr oil next change and see if that solves the problem.

Also, once it gets a bit warmer, you may find that it slips less too since they tend to grib better once warm - at least that's what I find with the cluch in my Suzuki.

The best way for a Yamaha clutch to work proper is with Yamalube oil. It has the right additives for the Yamaha's
