Something Seriously Stupid in Saskatchewan 1 Year, 7 Months ago

I don't often get a chance to practise my alliteration but this sure fits the subject line above:
Either our province is incredibly backwards, or we are so far ahead of everyone else that it may not be worth the wait for the rest of the country to catch up to us...Why, oh why, does Saskatchewan make our motorcycle license plates such an odd size? Ours are 4" x 8", while the rest of North America is 4" x 7" (except I think Quebec is the same as us..pourquoi??) Anyway, I've been having a devil of a time trying to find a license plate frame to dress up the plate that just cost me $600 for half a year. I hear, though, that our bike insurance is quite reasonable compared with other parts of the country.
Does anyone know of a dealer, or parts supply, that has plate frames for us?
Thanks, and ride safe.

I would think the local bike shops would only carry ones that fit our plate no?
As far as plate sizes go though - BC plates are even larger than ours - I dunno the exact measurements - but I would suggest they are an inch wider and longer...

This is probably illegal but I would bet you could get away with slight modification of the plate to make it fit a frame.Mine has some pretty deep grooves in it where it fits around the luggage rack and it's been no problem. If you get caught just claim ignorance!

While in Sturgis this year I met a couple of chaps from Red Deer, Alta. Both had custom made plate frames. One was curved front to back to conform to the fender and the other curved left to right to match the curve of the fender. Both machines were harleys and I believe the original mounting location was used but custom hardware was used to bring the plate tight to the fender. This cromed, molded frame and plate now looked like part of the fender rather than an appendage hanging out there. Very sharp in either configuration. The frames were made by WORKS OF STEEL by Shane Campbell, Red Deer, Alta, 403-346-6379. I haven't talked to him yet so I don't know about price, though I plan to as one would look great on my VTX1800N. When I learn more I will try to remember to post it.
