Drivers test 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I am planning to go for my motorcycle endorsement in early April and I would like an idea of what they are looking for/keeping an eye out for?

My assumptions are;
lane use and position
starting and stopping
shoulder checking
cornering abilities

Is this about it? Or am I missing a few important points? Should I maybe bring a bottle of whiskey or maybe a little folding money for a quick bribe?

That's about it, they like to see you dodge potholes and whatnot. Also they want you to have your hands off the controls at red lights. I know it doesn't make sense, but they do.

It also doesn't hurt to ask what they'll specifically be looking for when you show up for your appointment - they might not tell you, but if they do it might help.

Good luck!

He's right, they like to see you dodge potholes and hands off the bars - I don't agree with the last one at all but SGI figures you should be in neutral at red lights. I think it goes to show the testers aren't riders since (nearly) every rider knows you gotta keep an exit strategy in mind everywhere and if you're not in gear and someone is skidding behind you, good luck getting out of the way!

Thanks for the heads up on the hands off the controls. I have the exit strategy ingrained also.
Clutch in, bike in first gear and eyes behind you.

And thanks, I will ask when I get there, it can't hurt.
Thanks for the replies, I thought maybe there were 1 or 2 things that I wasn't expecting and figured this was the place to inquire.

With the snow we have had I never booked it yet. I take my safety course starting the 9th so I am going to book it for the 12th I'm hoping. Good luck with yours.

Congrats!

I'm booked on the 29th of May. Can they actually fail you for having your hands on the controls during a red light?

Theory says that the faster one goes, the less time they spend in the spot that could kill them. Practically, I'm not sure whether I want to test that theory.

First of all, if you want to go for the test earlier, call mid morning and/or early afternoon and ask if they have any cancellations. Thats how I got in early. The road test is easy. Its your discretion to use neutral at a red light as told by MY examiner. Prolong waits, they like to see you in neutral.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering if there was a way to try and get in earlier.

I am wondering about attire for the exam. Do I need to be wearing riding boots? I wear leather gloves, jeans, and a leather jacket all the time but I have not invested in a pair of boots yet. Are they sticky about wearing shoes?

When I pulled up there was a guy just about to head out. The first thing I noticed, no boots, dress slacks and clunky type black shoes.

Booked mine for the 27th. But that's probably a good thing.

Well, tomorrow is the big day. I have to meet the "followers" at 11:30am at the end of a cul-de-sac downtown.
