Helmet painting 2 Years, 4 Months ago
So I picked up a used helmet, mostly because it was incredibly cheap, and because it had an intercomm headset in it - which was really all I wanted.  So the helmet arrives from the US (BTW, NEVER, EVER have things shipped via UPS to you.  The brokerage fees they tack on are brutal - $45 for a $25 helmet) and I take it out and find its an ugly red BMW System V helmet - worth about $750 BEFORE the headset was installed.  At this point, I changed my mind on ripping the headset out and instead tore the helmet down to its bare components, sprayed 3 coats of Krylon plastic paint on it, and then multiple coats of paint to match the two colors on my bike and then 3 coats of clear, with wet sanding between phases.  For a rattlecan paint job, it came out pretty amazing.  Next event I'll bring it by with detailed instructions.  Takes about a week to do because you have to wait for paint to cure, but not hard.
