SMA DESTROYS IE7 5 Months ago
I use Opera on a Mac and it does not render the SMA site properly -- everything gets run in a narrow column along the left side of the screen, leaving 80% of the screen blank. Not sure why, so I have to use Safari for the SMA site.

What versions of Opera and OSX?

I use the same thing (Opera 9.26) and Leopard and all is well here.

That is strange!

Me:

Version 9.26
Build 3727
Platform MacOS X
System 10.4.11
Java Java Runtime Environment installed

It gets stranger, the different OS versions should have nothing to do with it...

Wait a minute...

Is it green?

If so, that's the mobile (PDA, PocketPC template). Try hitting the link (in Opera) right at the bottom "switch back to full version"

I have the same issues when using opera, but that browser is quite insecure anyways, so use firefox instead

haha...Opera is currently the MOST secure graphical browser around:
http://secunia.com/product/10615/?task=advisories << (Compare with the link below for Firefox)

Firefox, although I personally like it, is less secure and is much slower than Opera and even IE in some cases. In addition, many of the things users claim as Firefox's strengths aren't accurate:

Firefox Myths

Firefox Vulnerabilities

As far as the original bug mentioned by Rod -- up until a month ago, if you were using Opera, it would render SMA as a small widthed panel with blank space as Rod mentioned. I was made aware of the problem and it's been fixed for a few weeks now. It was because of SMA's mobile browser check and Opera was listed for some reason as a mobile browser. If it's not fixed when you come to SMA via Opera now, then click the link at the bottom "Revert to full version" and all should be well.

If it isn't, let me know and I'll look into it.

Re:SMA DESTROYS IE7 5 Months ago
Another quick update in regards to the title of this thread...

It seems like the browser crashing problem is with one of the addons in IE7. From what I can gather, the addons that are causing other people problems are:

Google Toolbar Addon
"DriveLetterAccess" Add-on installed by Sonic MyDVD
"SysFader" - NVidia chipset
Skype

If anyone locks it down to the particular one, please let us know so I can hunt for a cure on my side since it'll likely take Microsoft months to fix their side

Thanks!

Re:SMA DESTROYS IE7 5 Months ago
I was beginning to think my IE was special. Gotta cancel the bus I guess
Isn't google toolbar more tracker than anything? I tend to avaid those things but more from being paranoid than anything.

Re:SMA DESTROYS IE7 5 Months ago
The problem isn't with IE in general. It seems to be specific to users who have upgraded to IE7 from a previous version and the addons from the old version aren't being handled the same way (without error) in the new version of IE.

Logged in just now with Opera and its OK. The header is green. Don't see the link "switch back to full version" though.

Thanks,
Rod.

yeah, we changed the overall look of the site so I guess it made it even more confusing...hehe.

Sorry about that.

Whatever you did, it works and looks fine. Much faster too in both Opera and Safari.

The reply box that opens directly in the post you're replying to is cool!

Cheers,
Rod.

PS Opera 9.27 is available.

IE7 is still experiencing problems...it actually happened to yours truely last night when I was visiting SMA from a friend's computer.

I have been unable to determine what I can do to prevent IE7 from going nuts...but I'll keep looking
