Shaving Cream as an anti fog? 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Read this on another forum...anyone heard of this and/or tried it?

QUOTE:
Shaving Cream the best Anti Fog
If you want your mask to stay anti fog for at least 3 days. Use shaving cream on boths sides of your lense. I was told to use the traditional kind that foams as it comes out of the can and not the gel type. But that person doesn't experiment like I do. So here is the technique to use...
Traditional or Gel you want to use as little as possible. A small dab on a clean cloth. Rub it on your lense and then wipe until it is clean but not to the point to where you know that you have removed the shaving cream completely. Wipe it until you can see clearly. Note: If you want to test this whole idea, before you take a hot shower perform this same technique on part of your mirror. Then when you get out you will be able to see in the part that you've treated with shaving cream. Any questions about this send me a message and I'll try to answer them, but there isn't a whole lot that I don't know when it comes to simple tricks. So if you think of other problems let me know and I'll research it and find out the solution.

Sounds interesting...I got it on a paint ball forum of all places.

Post edited by: Kevin, at: 2007/01/16 19:50

This sounds like a variation on the shampoo on the visor trick used by many hockey players. This works in many cases but occassionally can cause a film on the visor that is hard to remove. It also seems to work well at the start but require more frequent applications as the visor ages. My suggestion would be not to take this step unless or until you have fogging problems.

So would you suggest the "real" anti-fog stuff they sell ya at a dealer then?

I'm just wondering because I ride early in the season when it's still in the minuses and I've always had to crack my visor to keep from fogging up.

I've never tried shampoo or shaving cream, but was curious if there is actually something out there that works.

the shampoo thing does definately work but it is not a guaranteed result and if your visor doesn't like it you may be in the market for a new one. that said you won't know unless you try

Post edited by: Kevin, at: 2007/01/24 12:44

I read that rubbing spit on the visor works and SCUBA divers do that.

I've never heard of that but now that I have - if I'm in a pinch stuck in the middle of nowhere one day fogging up - I may just be inclined to try it.
