About RidgeDaleGeographySituated on the edge of the Carrot River, Ridgedale Saskatchewan is one of the more scenic country settings in Northeast Saskatchewan. Located in the boreal transition ecoregion, Ridgedale is a short drive from Melfort, Tisdale, and Nipawin. The Saskatchewan River, Fort a la Corne Provincial Forest and Wapiti Regional Park are also only a few kilometers away, enabling residents access to some of the province's best recreational opportunities. The region's economy is dominated by agriculture with Walker Seeds, Parkland Alfalfa, and the Cargill inland grain handling terminal located nearby. History The Village of Ridgedale was established in 1921, with the coming of the Canadian National Railway into the district. The Ridgedale United Church is one of the area's oldest structures and was constructed in 1928. Its Gothic windows and distinct corner tower help present this church as a landmark structure in the community. The name Ridgedale originated as a description of the area, and was suggested by Mrs. Jack Grant. ('People Places - Contemporary Saskatchewan Place Names' Bill Barry, 2003.) Economic Information The rich farmland that surrounds Ridgedale produces many cereal, oilseed and specialty crops. The alfalfa dehydrating plant located near Ridgedale employs several local people while purchasing alfalfa from local farmers. Attractions Ridgedale is a quiet village of about 100 people situated with a general store, hotel, a curling rink, a community center and an active senior citizens organization. The people of Ridgedale are very active in their community and anyone who is interested in moving to Ridgedale, or visiting the community, would be treated with rural Saskatchewan hospitality.
